Revisiting Sophie Calle's Chromatic Diet piece for this wardrobe project.
I can't remember why I looked at it before, I love colours and colour co-ordination so much.

Women waste £1.6 billion on clothes.
Not only does this make me think, I probably have way more than 22 items of clothing that I never wear, but also that I do need a wardrobe clear-out and this might be another project idea that gets on my nerves, so I'm unsure about it now.

What I really wanted to do was another simple portrait series based on well known characteristics of recognisable personalities, but it's been done to death, just like stuff with masks. I wish I didn't have to strive to be so fucking individual. Although, without meaning to be a bitch, I'm so far from the worst on my course, even with an irritating idea, I might be ok.

I cannot believe Thomas Ruff was in Vice, so they're helping me with my set-brief project and my dissertation, thanks Vice.
I really like the aesthetics of his portraits and I love that he makes them massive.

This is harrrrd!

I am rubbish at speaking in front of anyone when I'm standing up. AND there wasn't even a reason for me to be standing up, I was just there on my own talking about something (my project) that no one has any interest in. POO!
I don't know why I am so rubbish, I have told people about it about 100 times over now.

Things to do:
Write up a brief to send to subjects to give them a better and more formal idea of the project.
- Flyers are a dumb idea because people will ignore them.

A couple of people have said, 'I know a person', so that makes things a bit easier and at least less stressful than doing it totally on my own. I also went onto a 'general' mixed race forum and posted up there. The internet makes everything seem to so dodgy, I don't want to leave my phone number everywhere but I would rather somebody rang me than emailed me saying they would do it and then back out, at least my voice sounds like a 21 year old University student just trying to get on with a project.
10am-5pm is not a fun day to do when it's in the same room the whole time, that can't be healthy.

This makes for a pretty sweet chapter about the influence of celebrity, but it will probably go under the chapter in which I talk about the lack of representation. Ta da! Naomi!

Plastic cups and cake decorations.

Talk about suffering for your art. This is a piece by artist, Steven Emmanuel, it really caught my eye. Emmanuel is a great example of an artist who not only creates interesting and engaging pieces but also uses text as relay within the piece. Once you realise what the title of the piece is, I think you'll get it, I find it pretty amusing, his whole website is a stream of ideas that are so 'in your face' simple and 'look what I've gone and done', you'll wish you'd done it, irritating.

Dear Topshop,

There is no way I could pull any of this off, put some nice things in-store soon please, you have been a very big disappointment recently and you are too expensive as it is.

In addition to the way I currently feel about you, there is a very interesting article from Mint Magazine that I'm inclined to agree with. In the recent BBC film, 'Worried about the Boy', there's a scene where they bitch and whine that Topshop stole 'New Romantic' because they even sell skull/pirate t-shirts there. Maybe Topshop does ruin things a little bit, but I would be inclined to think that the article I've mentioned is more about mass-consumerism and lack of personality rather than an actual attack on Topshop were Topshop to actually give me some decent clothes to buy, so I can fit in, obviously.

Foodtography.

I think I will try some of this, even if I am still not very good at lighting and my plates and tables don't match as well as this girls'. Lovely idea, and a more interesting way to photograph food as well, something that some people who read this may have noticed I enjoy doing. I should definitely try and light any images I take this way better, I think it's one of the keys.
