Phone Protection.

[c/o Mr Nutcase]
When Mr Nutcase got in touch with me about reviewing one of their custom phone cases I figured it sounded like a pretty good deal. However, given that I basically smashed my own poor Galaxy S3's screen to pieces at the office Christmas party I felt like a jazzy new case might be a bit wasted one me.

As Mr Nutcase sell cases for most phone models (as well as tablets), getting one for Moon's S2 seemed like the right way to go, allowing me to have a proper look to review it and let Moon get a new case to replace his trendy wooden one that broke a few months ago.

I went with getting pictures of our friends much like I did for my Casetagram case, there's quite a good choice of layouts to choose from but I must admit that the way you choose the type of case was a little confusing. I think image-wise, to be honest with you, I'd still pick Casetagram but for the price (starting at just £14.95) and the fact that you're getting a completely custom design for your phone, Mr Nutcase is certainly providing a purse-friendly option.

YFC Berkshire Country Fayre 2014.

I can't believe how terribly miserable the weather has been recently. We were lucky enough to spend at least one day of the Bank Holiday in the sunshine, Moon's poor forehead even got sunburnt, similar to when we were at the same fair last year, will he ever learn?

We headed over towards Theale with our friends Tim and Laura for our second go at the Young Farmer's Club Berkshire Country Fayre. I'm afraid I have to start by saying that the weather really did make a difference and we enjoyed it a bit more last year, just because it was actually warm then and we found ourselves getting a bit chilly.

Also, since the fayre moved this year just a little way up the round the the Englefield Estate it didn't have as much going for it as when we attended the previous year. That said, I was mainly excited that every other person seemed to have a dog and spotting dogs is one of my favourites, especially when their owners are more than happy to let you pet them(!)

I picked up one of those mice for Doll, it's her new favourite thing.

The Flyball was the best thing.

Last time we were a little sad that we missed out on a few of the events but this year there wasn't all that much to miss. Most of the displays consisted of a rushed 'interview' before whatever was on display was swiftly whisked out of the main arena before the 'next act' - no over-the-top 4x4 display for us this year!

The craft and food tents seemed much smaller too, and I think that's a real shame given that was the main reason I was excited to go. I guess there were parts of the day where we found ourselves getting a bit bored, even if it was nice to get out in the sunshine and pet all the dogs. I'm more looking forward to the grand event that is the Berkshire County Show in September now, as well as being excited for the Wealden Times Midsummer Fair in a couple of weeks thanks to winning tickets from Cider with Rosie.

Recipe: Passionfruit Meringue Pie

This recipe is a bit of a lie. It's not a proper meringue pie, I guess you could call it a meringue cheesecake really but it was really delicious. The actual recipe is kind of different to how I actually did it, purely because I made a bit of a boob of it and put all the meringue ingredients in together without thinking - it still worked, it was just a bit stupid (and took around 20 minutes of whisking).

I adapted it slightly from a recipe I found on Drizzle and Drip, I might be following it a bit more to the letter next time!

It all started with me finding this beautiful passionfruit curd from Thursday Cottage while visiting Hare Hatch Sheeplands for work a few weeks ago. I figured it couldn't be that different from lemon curd and it wasn't, plus passionfruit anything usually has my full attention.

Ingredients:
  • 1 x Jar of Passionfruit Curd
  • 100g Gingernut biscuits
  • 50g Butter
  • 1 x Passionfruit (optional)
  • 2 x Egg whites
  • 200g Caster sugar
  • 60ml Boiling water
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
Method:
  1. Crush your gingernut biscuits and combine with melted butter, add and press down into your dish and leave to chill in the fridge while you prepare the rest
  2. Boil your water and once boiled add to your sugar and mix well
  3. Whisk your egg whites into stiff peaks and slowly whisk in your sugar solution along with the vanilla extract until combined
  4. Spoon the passionfruit curd over your biscuit base and add the meringue mixture
  5. Place your pie under the grill at 180°C - you could also use a blow torch - for 10-15 minutes or until caramelised
  6. Optional: Cut a passionfruit in half, scoop out the pulp and use to decorate your meringue

Happy Little Things.

I made it, I took 100 little snippets of happiness and completed the #100HappyDays challenge, and it actually really wasn't a challenge. I'm pleased to have a record of 100 Happy Days and while I was going to turn it into a Project 365, my 100th day was pretty awesome and it was pretty great to end it on such an easy high.

It's so great to see this popping up all over Instagram more recently and generally I think it's really helped me look a bit more on the bright side, particularly when the last few weeks have been a little more trying than I would have liked.
