Tuesday Tabs #27

Feels silly posting this because I have so many other things lined up to share with you. I've been at work all day though and I'm feel a little sleepy and lazy - also silly because these posts take a little longer than they should.

I hope that you're having a good Tuesday, I've been rushed off my feet, here are some of my favourite finds from the Internet this week. ♥

Beach Party Print, Tuesday Bassen
I really like this print from Tuesday Bassen, I love all her other work too, you should definitely check her out, her store is full of quirky, humourous knick-nacks.

Georgia - Nautical, Jo Totes
I've been talking about Jo Totes' camera bags for so long now that it actually makes my heart a little hurt that I still don't own one. With yet another stylish, and pretty collection launched, I hope this will be the year I get one. I'll make it a treat for the wedding I'm shooting in October, this is my favourite of the Jo Totes bags so far, just check out the inside.

ASOS Dress in Tea Party Print
I wish that I'd seen this dress sooner as it's now sold out, as well as being half-price, it's so cute and fun, the heart cut-out on the back is a killer.

Teapot, Ferm Living
Pretty ♥

'I Thought That You Didnt Like Me' Ceramic Tile, Rob Ryan
*note to self, ask for all the Rob Ryan things for your upcoming, unimportant birthday.x

Ray Bans, Smart Buy Glasses
I picked up a pair of (rather convincing) Faux-Bans while in Turkey, but after browsing Smart Buy Glasses and seeing the bargains on offer, I'd love to treat myself to these bad-boys. Something about spending that much on a pair of sunglasses makes me incredibly nervous though, even if they're the coolest and so discounted, I always lose everything.

  • Print & Fold Paper Cats via How About Orange — I'll always have a soft-spot for cute paper craft even if I'm not the best at it.
  • Terri Lowe's Blogging Etiquette Guide - Part Two — Terri writes some really great stuff and this was particularly good, some great tips as well as witty, well-thought out opinions, one of my favourite blogs at the moment to read.
  • This Is Rude — Pretty rad creative collective.
  • The iTunes Festival — I must say it's hardly living up to previous line ups, but it's grown in popularity I guess and people ruin everything. Last year was actually the first time I didn't go, I could have seen Dry the River and Manic Street Preachers had I not been as poor as church mouse. However, Mumford and Sons have been added to the line-up and I've love to see Frightened Rabbit and Biffy Clyro, so fingers crossed despite lacking a bit of oomph.

  • Currently Watching: The Newsroom.
Currently Listening To: The 'Drive' soundtrack.
Currently: Crying over the bills stealing the money I literally just got paid. *boo to bills

    Tuesday Tabs #21

Op! It's a two post kind of day. I'm super-sad after not being able to find a decent affordable phone whilst out in town earlier, hum. My steak was tasty though. I've not got much to share with you this week, as I've been so busy with work but here are a few things, just because it's Tuesday. ♥
I'm a bit out of love with the fact that our kitchen is so white. Not just because the littlest amount of dirt shows up but mainly because it reminds me how little it looks like this.

Cuteness Dress, €60, The Petite Chouette

Yellow Leather Scallop Satchel, £69.25, French & English Confectioner's
I'm in desperate want need of a new summer handbag, a shoulder bag that can carry my SLR, purse and phone (when I finally get around to getting one).

Part of a fun print campaign for Dove haircare.

I know this is a bit old now, but it's nice, especially as my dislike for Usher grows the older he gets.

    Link Love: ♥
  • Jenni Sparks' Hand-drawn Map of London — This is lovely, it makes me want to like London more, you can pick up A1 and A2 size prints over at Evermade.
  • What We Wore: Best Friends — I kind of love Elycia from Love Elycia and Kaylah from The Dainty Squid's friendship. This is an adorable post making their best friendom official with matching dinosaur necklaces and showcasing their rad fashion sense.
  • Ayanole's Party Nail Art Ideas for Become Gorgeous — I'm so out of touch with this kind of stuff. I'm hoping I'll be able to find a job that lets me paint my nails soon.
  • Maddie On Things — Sometimes I just love Tumblr, this is an amazing blog about a dog that likes to be on things, and in things.

    Tuesday Tabs #20

It's been an eventful week, and once again I've semi-failed to keep in touch with you, and if I wasn't working today, tomorrow and the day after, I would hope to share lots with you. I still do want to do that, I just don't want to make any promises, although I'm sure I'll get around to it all at some point.

Did you have a nice Jubilee weekend? Moon and I went down to Devon to stay with his Gran for a couple of days. It was okay, it's just a pity that the weather wasn't more on our side, but it was nice to grab a change of scenery. On our way back from Devon, we made a slight de-tour to Portsmouth and had a spot of lunch with Moon's brother and his girlfriend, Charlotte, before have a peak in Pie & Vinyl, which is just about the most fun idea for a shop. Anyway, I have a more visual method of sharing my adventures with you coming up, as well as a few treasures I picked up along the way, so I won't say much more.

I suppose that it's back to reality today, as although it's still the bank holiday 'weekend', certain muggins need to return to work as the masses need to be entertained. I don't mind so much but the weekend was quite busy so it would have been nice to relax and take stock for one more day.

I really haven't even got a lot to show you this week as I've been either Internetless or working, so I suppose this is just a slightly lazy way of letting you know I have some nice things to come, which I hope I do.
How perfect is this pantry cupboard? My favourite feature is the apple drawer at the bottom.

White Car-Print Prom Dress, £17.99, New Look
I spotted this out in Exeter on Sunday and if it had been my size, I definitely would have snapped it up, sadly it wasn't meant to be. I do have enough dresses, but this one is so cute, and the fabric is much nicer in real life than you would expect for a standard New Look dress.

'Social Media' by Paul Worm, $14.99, Society6
A dilemma I have often found myself in.
Part of a series by Paul Worm entitled, 'The Worst Thing is...'.

    Lipstick Dinosaur
I can't even begin to describe how sad I am that this is now sold. She always has the nicest, most reasonably priced vintage items though, so I'm hopeful that something else I like will come up.

Narwhal & Pirate-print tights in Turquoise, £17.12, Teja Jamilla
These tights are so beautiful, but I'd be so worried about ruining them I don't think I'd be able to handle it.

    Vintage Telephone, £23.36, Good Merchants
If only I had seen this before we bought our plain (and boring, as well as confusing) Tesco-Value house phone.

'Can We, Shall We' Lasercut, £90.11, Mister Rob

Apparently I'm actually quite the semi-fan fo Robyn, and this is both adorable and incredible good, so I really like it.

    Link Love: ♥
  • Key Lime Pie Marshmallows — I'm not a huge fan of marshmallows, and the recipe is such a crazy, American one that these would probably be almost impossible to replicate. However, that doesn't stop me from at least thinking it would be fun to give them a try.
  • Hannah Curson's 3D Rainbow Cupcakes — Hannah's blog is one of my favourites, as she post such nice photographs using so many different cameras. Our first connection was through baking though, and this is a fun post showcasing some cakes she's made, as well as some cakes she'd like to make. I think these are a fair effort, even if Hannah was a bit disappointed.
  • 'The Silent Evolution' by MUSA — Images of an underwater sculpture park I researched whilst working on the picture desk of Ink Global. They're a bit spooky but beautiful in their own way at the same time.
  • Pop Chart Lab Prints — I would love to get myself at least one of these, but there are so many good ones. I think my favourites are The Splendiferous Array of Culinary Tools and A Visual Compendium of Notable Haircuts in Popular Music, both under $30!
  • DIY Tiny Polaroid Magnets — At some point, I need to have a serious update of printed photos as I don't think, aside from ones for other people and University projects, that I've printed any photographs for display in well over a year and a half. This is a fun way to display images and seems relatively easy so definitely something I want to try out.
  • Rachel Bone — Lovely illustration, so happy that we have so much wall space.

  • What a gloomy day, and over the weekend, something the cover of darkness hid from us last night, the lilac tree in our garden has fallen, I have no idea how to deal with this. Stay tuned, I'm going to try and make time for your because I definitely have a few things to share now.

    Tuesday Tabs #18

Only a couple of hours before I have to leave for work, and the whole flat needs a clean, it's doable, I'm just so hungry right now. Everything is going quite well at the moment, I'm feeling like I'm settling into things, although I made a silly mistake regarding my other job yesterday which will hopefully easily fixed come Friday.

Some news regarding Little Cat, she is officially completely better following her adventure and she's not pregnant! She was but now isn't, something I am pleased about. I would jump at the chance to look after newborn kittens, but it's just not the right time and she's still a baby, I think it's much safer to wait a few more months before making that kind of decision, plus she's not going out again for a very long time.

I've not been up to much in terms of online activity as most of last week consisted of working, complaining about how much my feet hurt and then going to bed before doing the same thing again. I don't mind, it's just is a bit of a shame that I can't indulge this kind of activity as much. This is just one of two real downsides to this job so far, the other being that I'm not allowed to paint my nails; normally I would just paint them in between but because of the scheduling it's not really worth it, but it still makes me sad.

Yellow Kite Print Day Dress, £36, H! by Henry Holland for Debenhams
This was recently featured as part of Project 10, but I must say I didn't take as much notice of it as I did when I spotted it in-store yesterday. I think this photo doesn't nearly do it justice and it's much nicer in real life, it also differs quite a lot from other Henry Holland designs and just seems more whimsical than usual, it would be great for a summer walk.

A fun and silly animation, the end made me crack up, so I had to share ♥

Yet another Rob Ryan item that I'd love to have in my home. I spotted them on a one of his recent blog posts and I don't think they're even available in his shop yet. I have a feeling that they'll be a bit pricey but I don't see Rob Ryan as ever really being unaffordable so I hope to snap them up.

This is very good, I'm a bit sad that I was working and not able to catch the full show. Will Smith is very high on my list of favourite people.

iPhone 4 Case, £11.01, On Your Case
I'm not that bothered about iPhones, but this is such a pretty case. I can't wait to pack in my Blackberry for something more trendy.

    Puppy-Kitty-Love Tote, £11.67, Leah Goren

From the series, 'Typography Jokes' by Gary Nicholson

  • Lovely Lists from Goodnight Little Spoon — As a listmaker myself, I love this list of different lists.
  • 9 Lives by Twenty-Seven Names — So many pretty prints and cuts from New Zealand-based company Twenty-Seven Names blogged about on Style Paws. It's not the only nice collection they have but this one includes cats so it's an obvious choice.
  • A Thrifty Mrs' eBay Amnesty — Another great list including some of A Thrifty Mrs' favourite eBay stops for all sorts of different requirements.

  • A bit shorter than usual but I kind of like it. Now it's time for some lunch, and to sort out the flat, just under an hour and a half to go, I'd better get it together.

    'Young Colossus' - Young Colossus.

Young Colossus is a six track side-track EP, put together by Orlando Weeks, compiled in a book with illustrations by Robert Hunter with additional vocals from Alessi Laurent-Marks from Alessi's Ark.

I was really willing this to be good, because I rarely make the leap and and buy physical copies of music, firstly because I don't have the space and secondly because nothing much happens to it once I've put it on to my computer anyway. However, Young Colossus' book-form had great appeal and there are some really neat pictures on the inside that complement the theme of the EP basically perfectly.

I'll be honest and say I was unsure about it once I was two tracks in, but I'm currently on my third listen and I'm getting around that. This EP is much more about story-telling and linking back to the visuals than any previous track from The Maccabees that I've heard. In fact, it's almost nothing like The Maccabees, with Orlando weeks' recognisable vocal only really being heard on a few occasions throughout. Effects have been added though so although he's hiding, he's still very much present, not only in the vocals but particularly in the form of the lyrics and composition.

I'm really enjoying this little EP, and it's a genuine treat for both my eyes and ears, which is what I hoped it would be. Despite it being quite 'un-Maccabees' I don't think it's one to turn your nose up at as a Maccabees fan and with a limited edition of just 1,500 copies, it's something to be snapped up fast. It also smells amazing, there's some serious paper going on, if you're into that sort of thing. I think my favourite track is 'Monsters Dance' because it's a bit odd, closely followed by 'Sound of Young Lost and Found' because it's so dainty and eerie.

I thought this was a neat touch. On the back of the envelope the EP came in was a 'Young Colossus' stamp. It must be Orlando's new thing because during The Maccabees' January and February tour, stamps dedicated to each tour date appeared, sometimes directly relating to the destination, sometimes relating to something/someone from there.

What I think of NME is neither here nor there, but they've put together a nice little piece with slightly more information which you can have a look at here.

    Tuesday Tabs #8

I haven't got any recent news for you this week, nothing very exciting is going on, and I'm ill so I'm actually pretty happy that that's the way it is really, means I have an excuse to me a bit less frantic. I have a couple of leads and have applied for a couple of things, but not heard back and I guess there's a huge part of me that is trying to hold back pinning my hopes on this job with Alamy, because it would be sweet, but the next call-back would only be for a second interview, I don't know.

I mean it's pretty crummy hunting for a job, and I'm articulate, creative, nice and a fast learner, among so many other things, I just don't know what else I can do at this stage, and there will be new graduates soon and surely that's just more competition. I just want something that isn't another internship, and I think it's ridiculous that that's a pretty big ask. Still, like I said, I'm ill so I can put off worrying for a little bit.

Here are some neat finds from this week, I'm pretty sure I've outdone myself, there's so much to share, and here was me thinking that I had been avoiding computers.
On Thursday, as you may have seen, Moon and I were lucky enough to catch an intimate in-store gig at Banquet Records in Kingston. As I said at the time, I didn't want to ruin the atmosphere so only took one photo and nothing else. Luckily, Banquet were videoing, and we found this at the weekend, so I can show you how beautiful Dry the River are, especially when unplugged, so amazing, I was blown away. You can even spot Moon at the end, and me, but you have to really look as I'm a bit small.

Atalanta By Atalanta Weller Mexi V-Front Shoes, £210, Urban Outfitters
These are such beautiful shoes and there are so many reasons why, I'd so love a pair to call my own. Sadly they're sold out of size 5s already, but here's hoping that they'll be around for the sale.

Lila Ice Skater Woman Necklace, £18.17, SPRITZ Design
I did a quick search and this necklace and others available from the above Etsy shop were the closest I could find the the amazing necklaces and pins that I saw in Porta in Brighton, I'm not satisfied with this find but I thought I'd share this will you to give you an idea, I hope to keep looking, until I'm able to get back down to Brighton.

The sound in this is pretty great, the whole thing is actually pretty great, but I can't fully explain why, it's just great.

Badges from the series Eat Fast, Die Young from Jiggery Pokery.

Wooden Kite Necklace, £23, Stolen Thunder Boutique

    Cool Sweaters T-shirt, $20, Threadless
Super sad that the girl version of this is sold out in my size, but how cute is it? I think that I definitely have too many animal-related clothes so it's probably a sign, but that's the beauty of these posts, I'm still able to admire things like this from a distance.

Orange Zip Messenger Bag, £25, River Island
I'm slowly turning into the kind of girl who's never satisfied with her handbag, I mean, I was but then my perfect River Island bag decided to have a 'my zips only going to work half the time' attitude and it just makes me a little bit sad and this one is nice.

Darlingtonia Foxy Moccasins, $129, Red Velvet

Bow Tie in Pumpkin Patch, $18, Red Velvet
I've been thinking a lot about collars and bow ties, obviously they're a great solution to adding a bit of life to an old outfit, and I would really like one, but they always seem to look a lot better on other people. A simple design like this could sway me, I think I might have to get Etsying.

The guy in this photo is such a babe, I wonder about it's original source as the Tumblr I found this on is a horrible one which plays unnecessary/awful music when you open it.

    House Lamp, £59.69, Hannah Nunn

Both: Layla Amber Handmade Creations, £4 each

Trust Your Instincts, £12.98, Ashley G
It was pretty difficult to pick just one print I liked as I pretty much like all of them, I was brought to Ashley G's Etsy shop, through this week's apparent 'blog of the week', A Beautiful Mess.

  • Modcloth's The Style Aquatic Lookbook — Such a fun lookbook, with adorable photographs showcasing Modcloth's latest bathing suits and jewellery, Summer isn't as far away as it currently seems. Things like this only further add to my envy that Modcloth isn't over here in the UK, I doubt I'd be able to find such cute swimwear anywhere else.
  • A Beautiful Mess: Home Tour — Elsie, over at A Beautiful Mess treated me to a serious load of interior porn when I was browsing her blog and stumbled on a series she did about the home she shares with her husband. It's beautiful, their lounge is something else and the tiny details are amazing. If my future nest is even half as lovely and stylish as this one, I will be more than happy. The combination of original artwork, vintage, up-cycled and kitsch is everything I love in interior decorating.
  • Grandma's Fabrics — I'm currently waiting for the cushion inserts I ordered from eBay to arrive but I'm obsessed with fabric at the moment and this Etsy store has so many cute and different ones to choose from. I'm already on the look-out for fabric for my next project, but I need to cool it and find out if I'm as good at sewing as I think I am first.
  • 5 Tips for Lifestyle Photography — I should start paying more attention to my Bloglovin' account, so I can keep up with A Beautiful Mess more regularly, although it is pretty great to bulk-read. This list of tips for lifestyle photography is really well put together with beautiful images, particularly helpful when considering what kinds of photos to take for blogs, but also great tips for photography generally.
  • Harry Draws Pictures' Big Cartel — Lovely original prints and this great junk food cushion.
  • Dear Ryan Gosling
  • DIY Dixie Cup Garland — Something on my to-do list, a really great tutorial to create a cute 'lampshade' fairylights garland, it seems pretty simple and fun to do, can't wait have the space to give it a try.

  • On the plus side of this illness, for some reason my hair hasn't looked this great in ages. Don't forget I've listed a ton of stuff on eBay, and there's only one more day to go, check it out.

    713.

This is a bit rubbish but here are a couple of outfits and more things I bought this week, as well as a couple of gratuitous photographs of Dolly.
So these are the outfits I wore on Wednesday evening and Thursday. I went out on Wednesday for the first time in ages it was a bit of a shame that it was only a quiet one due to my interview the following day. These dresses are too good; great shapes and such cool patterns.
    Left:
    Dress: Yumi, £12.99
    Belt: Primark, with another dress
    Tights: Primark
    Shoes: New Look, last year

    Right:
    Jacket: H&M, last year
Scarf: Primark, nearly 5 years ago
    Dress: Yumi, £21.99
    Tights: Primark
(wore with) Ankle Boots: River Island.

I got these in the Dorothy Perkins sale for £5, best £5 spent on shoes, ever! They're so comfy and so ugly, the best! ♥

I'm really liking the idea of putting neat things like greetings cards in frames. Scribbler might have a sale on and I might have popped into the one in Kensington while waiting around for my interview on Friday. They're by an illustrator called Paul Thurlby and I thought they were pretty cute. The 'Embrace' one would make a good Valentine's card but I feel it might be slightly to mushy for Moon's taste in that context and I'd prefer it for myself as a piece of art anyway. Now I know that Scribbler is far superior to Paperchase in it's card selection at the moment, I'll definitely be taking the time to browse there first.

I got around to printing out my graphic CV a whole week ahead of schedule. Which I probably knew I could do but it does wonders for motivation when you tick things off your to-do list early. The man who works at the printers in New Malden was quite nice and has asked to potentially use photographs from Malden Fortnight to display in the window. I don't know if anything will come from it but it was kind of nice. I'm to drop some business cards to him during next week.
